When clinically appropriate—and only with your informed consent—we may recommend an internal pelvic examination to assess muscle strength, coordination, tension, pain, scar mobility, and prolapse.Internal examinations are never mandatory. Your comfort and consent guide every step of your care.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Do I need an internal examination?

No. Internal assessments are recommended only when clinically appropriate and are always optional. Your physiotherapist will explain why one may be helpful and will only proceed with your informed consent.

2. Does pelvic physiotherapy hurt?

Treatment should never be unnecessarily painful. Your physiotherapist will work within your comfort level and adjust techniques as needed.

3. Can pelvic physiotherapy help during pregnancy?

Yes. Pelvic physiotherapy can help manage pregnancy-related pain, prepare your body for labour, and support a smoother postpartum recovery.

4. When should I see a pelvic physiotherapist after giving birth?

Many women benefit from an assessment around six weeks postpartum, although treatment may be appropriate earlier or later depending on your recovery and your healthcare provider's recommendations.

5. Is pelvic physiotherapy covered by insurance?

Most extended health benefit plans include physiotherapy coverage. We also offer direct billing to many insurance providers.
